I’m thrilled to share that I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with Bedford Rowing Club to produce a comprehensive series of gym induction videos, designed to help their members — both new and seasoned — feel confident and empowered in the gym.
This video series covers key resistance exercises, like the Seated Cable Row. In it, we demonstrate how the seated cable row—with a V-bar attachment—engages and strengthens the lats, rhomboids, and traps, which are instrumental for building power, stability, and posture on the water.

Why Strength & Resistance Training Matters in Rowing
- Stroke Power & Endurance
Stronger back, core, and legs enable rowers to deliver more force through every stroke, sustaining longer periods of high-intensity effort. - Boat Stability & Technique
Resistance training helps develop posture, balance, and neuromuscular control—leading to smoother pulls and more efficient technique. - Injury Prevention
A robust musculoskeletal system reduces the risk of overuse injuries—especially in the lower back, shoulders, and knees—stemming from repetitive motion. - Greater Resilience & Adaptability
Beyond strength, gym work builds physical resilience, so rowers can better handle fatigue, recovery demands, and adapt to varying water conditions.
Working with Bedford Rowing Club allowed me to blend my passion for coaching with clear, practical education. Guiding members through foundational gym techniques, helping them develop confidence, and ultimately supporting their on-water performance—this project has been incredibly rewarding.
I look forward to witnessing how each member grows stronger, rows faster, and brings even more energy from gym gains to crew gains! 💪🚣♂️
